EV7Lab (“we”) respects the privacy of people who use the FEELSCAPE app (“the app”). This policy explains what information the app handles and how.
1. Information we collect
The app does not collect or send your personal information to our servers or anywhere else. The information below is created by the app and stored only on your device.
- Measurement results: loudness (dB), brightness (lux), number of nearby Bluetooth devices, air pressure, magnetic field strength, and the number and strength of nearby Wi-Fi and cellular signals
- Place names you type in
- App settings (daily rhythm, theme, microphone calibration and so on)
- Sleep mode records: loudness (dB) and brightness (lux) measured every minute during the night
- Place fingerprints for auto place recognition: nearby Wi-Fi device IDs (BSSIDs) mixed with a secret unique to your device and turned into codes that cannot be reversed. The original IDs and Wi-Fi names are not stored.
- How a space felt to you (comfortable, okay, tiring), if you choose to leave it after a measurement
- Air pressure log: pressure measured every 15 minutes to follow the weather trend. Deleted automatically after 2 days.
2. Permissions and why we use them
- Microphone: used only to calculate loudness (dB). Sound is never recorded or stored; the audio is discarded right after the calculation.
- Location: used to see nearby Wi-Fi (required by Android), to rule out far-away places in auto place recognition, and for the measurement map. Place recognition uses only an irreversible code for a roughly 200 m area mixed with a secret unique to your device. With the measurement map on (default; you can turn it off or delete locations in Settings), the coordinates and accuracy radius of each measurement are stored with that record on the device only. When you open the map, map images (tiles) are downloaded from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data); like any online map, this sends the tile addresses of the area on screen and your IP address to that server. With the map on, one GNSS (GPS) fix is taken during each measurement, and the altitude calculated from the barometer and GNSS is stored with that record on the device only. For altitude calibration, the latest sea-level pressure value (one number and its time) is kept on the device. Coordinates, altitude, measurements and records themselves are never sent anywhere.
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): used to estimate how crowded a space is from the number of nearby devices. Device names and addresses are not stored.
- Wi-Fi state: used to check the number and strength of nearby Wi-Fi signals. Wi-Fi names are shown on screen right after a measurement and never stored.
- Light, pressure, magnetic and proximity sensors: read without any special permission to calculate the index.
- Notifications: Android requires a visible notification for sleep mode to keep recording while the screen is off. We never send advertising or promotional notifications.
- Activity recognition (step detection): used only to leave sound measured while walking out of the noise calculation. Step counts are not stored.
- All permissions are optional. You can use the rest of the app without granting them.
3. Retention and deletion
Measurement records stay only on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app. You can delete one record, selected records, or all records in the History screen. Deleted records cannot be recovered.
4. Sharing with third parties
We do not share your personal information with third parties or outsource its processing. When you use the share feature, only the result image and text are passed to the app you choose.
5. Your rights
You can delete records in the app at any time, withdraw permissions in Android settings, or uninstall the app to erase all of its data.
6. Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
7. Changes to this policy
If we add features that use the internet, such as sharing records, we will update this policy and let you know in the app and on this page before the changes take effect.
